Description:
Ellen O’Connell, White Plains resident and retired teacher, will moderate a discussion of the novel The Ninth Hour, by Alice McDermott. This narrative “focus[es] tightly on a close- knit community of ordinary people,” but “leads to a deeper understanding of the human condition.” The National Book Award winning author tells the story of an order of nursing nuns in an Irish-Catholic neighborhood in Brooklyn. As an NPR reviewer puts it, “Who cares about nuns? Read this book and you will.” — Heller McAlpin. This book is available in the Library’s physical collection and on Overdrive/Libby.
