STEAMy Summer Days: 3D Design and Prototyping

Event Type: STEAM
Age Group(s): Middle School (Grades 6 - 8), 9th Grade, 10th Grade
Date: 6/28/2021, 6/29/2021, 6/30/2021, 7/1/2021, 7/2/2021
Start Time: 1:30 PM
End Time: 3:30 PM
Students will learn the fundamentals of 3D modelling and CAD (computer-aided design) using the free Onshape software to make basic models. After learning the basics, students will work in small groups to design a mechanism that will accomplish a challenge (e.g. flinging a ping-pong ball). Based on their modelled designs, students will then build, test, and revise a prototype of their mechanism using basic craft materials like popsicle sticks and rubber bands.
Students will need to create a free account with Onshape.
Students will need to pick up supplies from the Library for this program.
