 Now more than ever it's important to understand the specific nature of depression in older adults. The presentation will focus on coping with role transitions throughout the lifespan. As individuals age they may transition through a number of major life events including retirement, loss of a loved one, relocation, caring for family members and changes in memory. We will discuss the effects of role transitions, strategies to help manage and cope change including changes in memory. The presenter, Dr. Patricia Marino, is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College , Dr. Patricia Marino is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Marino is trained as a geriatric psychologist. Her areas of interest include the role of social support and physical health on late life mood disorders. Currently she is a member of the research team at the Weill Cornell Institute of Geriatric Psychiatry and serves as a therapist on a Late-life depression psychotherapy study and coordinates several research studies in the area of late life mood disorders. Dr. Marino also has a private practice in White Plains, New York and New York City. The program is presented in partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health Center.
