In partnership with the White Plains Public Library, the YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is encouraging as many groups and individuals as possible to read "Dreamland Burning" by Jennifer Latham. Through intricately interwoven alternating perspectives, Jennifer Latham's lightning-paced page-turner brings the Tulsa race riot of 1921 to blazing life and raises important questions about the complex state of US race relations--both yesterday and today. We will have a video conference with author Jennifer Latham (who lives in Tulsa) and have a chance to interact. Our discussion will unpack the history of the Tulsa "riot" or "massacre" of 1921 and other relevant issues. Contact the White Plains Public Library to reserve a copy (or your local bookstore)! We'd like to hear from you if you're interested in contributing to this initiative through reading the book or attending this and future events with the YWCA Alliance for Change Book Club. The Alliance for Change is part of the YWCA's Racial Justice Advisory Board, tasked with developing public programs to further the Y's mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Contact Julia Nesbitt (YWCA) at or Ben Himmelfarb (White Plains Library) at with questions.
