Poetry Slam & Open Mic @ White Plains Public Library

Event Type: Adult - Poetry
Age Group(s): Adults, Teens
Date: 12/5/2018
Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Time: 9:00 PM
Our exciting "1st Wednesday" series continues with Open Mic, SLAM competition and feature performances from guest poets Ryan J and Nate Mask! Nate Mask and Ryan J are nationally touring spoken word artists based in Atlanta and are members of the 2018 National Poetry Slam Group Piece Champion Art Amok Slam Team. They are tolerated in their local scene because their poems are somewhat entertaining, but nobody actually likes either of them. Throughout their work, both poets use humor and passion to draw audiences in, while providing insightful and scathing commentary on both social and personal issues. Their work touches on topics ranging from race, politics, relationships, mental health, driving in Atlanta traffic, and more. To take part in the open mic or slam, please register between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. Slam poets should bring at least one original poem of up to 3 minutes. Registration closes promptly at 7, and the program starts shortly thereafter. Co-hosted by local poet and slam-master Eric ZORK Alan. All are welcome! Questions? Contact program librarian Ben Himmelfarb by phone (422-6980) or e-mail ( Poetry Slam is a project of the White Plains Library Foundation.
